| Not a tax question, but I think some of us may wonder what the going rate is for our professional services...
--For the simple return? For more complex returns with property transactions? I sometimes have trouble determining what's reasonable in the client's eyes. Also, b/c we are in a situation that we can see our client's financial situation, do you sometimes charge less than the usual fee? | |

| I avoid reducing or increasing my fee based on income. That said I do reduce my fees for elderly, military, police & firefighters otherwise full price. I think that rates really depend on what area you are in. As a general rule I would say your rate should be at least 2.5 times your hourly/desired pay rate.

| I think that we get to wrapped up in our hourly rate. There are a lot of things that go into preparing a return besides time and knowledge. What about copying, computer equipment, storage of records, rent, etc. I don't know what the solution is but, hourly billing is not the answer. I vote for value billing. | |

| I set a rate per form and then modify according to the time or entries I need to put into it, some schedule C's have a few entries and some require much time, so it's a combination of fees per form and time. | |
