Evan Snapper, a name out of Dickens.

She should send Scarpetta off to wherever Ed McMahon is these days, heaven or on Johnny's couch in hell, and see what he did when the same thing happened to him.

I have this thing about 'series detectives' where after about the third or fourth book, I want to see them bumped off. There are very few I want to keep around and feel they have room for growth. The rest never change, so I reach the point where I say, 'read one, read them all.'

Conan Doyle tried to do it, and Nicolas Freeling did succeed with von der Valk, but then he had the wife solve the case, which was worse.
