Hi! I am representing our CPA firm in this group. We are new here and wanted to know if anyone had advice on routing sheets. We are almost completely paperless and want to make sure our routing sheets keep us organized when using Lacerte. We want to make sure we don't get lost in the system. Any advice would be appreciated!

Lcollier, can you tell me more about routing sheets? What do you mean?

Are these routing sheets electronic within Lacerte?

In the past I have always printed a slip sheet to note open issues or questions about the client.

(In Lacerte, a slip sheet is used to divide the different copies of the return ie: preparer copy, client copy.... they have the client name, address & telephone info on them )

Sorry Joe, a routing sheet is used to log the flow of a tax return or financial statement through the preparation, review and processing of a firm. Each person that works on a return notes the date the procedure was completed and maybe some notes of importance. When final it is a complete map of where and who worked on the documents.

DZ, faxed you a sample copy of my Lacerte routing sheet. I use it as a manual tally of open items, dates of requested information and notes to the file.

I have used Lacerte for about 10 years, have found it very user friendly. But now it seems really expensive - must be because I am paying for it now. This will be my 1st solo tax season. Wish me luck.

Hey you all,

So are you using paperless routing sheets or is the only slip that is not paperless. I am paperless as well and deciding if even the routing slip should be paperless.

Please advise,

Bj

Yes. It is a piece of paper. It is attached to clients mailed in documents as they all float from preparer, reviewer, assemble and then to partner for sign off.

why don't you use the "status" function built into lacerte. You can edit this and add more and better defined status-es..

AK, Routing sheet is not for STATUS of return. It gets attached to client documents as they float around your office. Open item listing, assembly directions, will client pick up return?, billing info, etc.

In the Machine shop business the rout sheet is called a "traveler" The traveler was a piece of paper that had instructions on it that would take a machined part from raw material stages to finished goods stage. FYI only

Does anyone know a good source for tax return routing sheets? We are currently not using one and I would like to implement this.

Have you attended Gear Up in recent years? When I attended their individual update course for the 2006 filing season, they had an example of a decent routing sheet in the text.
