| My client works as a contractor for US army in Iraq. He has been there for more than a year. He is a green card holder. Can he claim foreign earned income exclusion? Any important things I need to check before I file a form 2555 for him? He lives in the army camp site.

| Wages received from the US government as an employee of the United State government are not eligible for exclusion on Form 2555. See Sec. 911(b)(1)(B)(ii). Not sure if this taxpayer is classified as an employee.

| Most of those contractors work for Blackwater or a similar company. A lot of these companies have set up shop over seas (a friend of mine worked for one in England). A lot depends on what he does and who actually signs his check. My friend used to tell me he worked as a government contractor in Iraq, but he actually worked for a company in England doing work in Iraq, not the US government.

| I don't know why Proseries gives me an error on foreign earned income worksheet for form 2555 on line 4. He started his job with that company in Dec 2005. On Feb 12th he went abroad to IRAQ at the Army camp site. And he came back on 3/12/2007. He took a vacation of 21 days during the whole year. So he worked for 302 days in 2006 in IRAQ and 30 Days in USA. On line 4 when I put 332 days the system gives me an error. Help!!
