I have noticed a lot of CPA's/EA's are now offerring financial services to clients and this is a great way to expand clint base. I always thought that you need some sort of sponsorship from a financial services firm to sit for these exams. Isn't it so?

You will need to pass the Series 65 exam. It is best to work through a firm who will do the administration for you -- open accounts, manage the portfolio, reporting, etc.
