Am I crazy. I thought that I had read in the last couple of years that there had been more than one ruling that resulted in a home title bearer be allowed to deduct interest even though his name was not on the loan. I cannot now find any reference to this. Can anyone help?

You are quite right. If the mortgage is secured by the property, either the legal or equitable owner may claim a deduction for the interest that he pays. See Reg ยง 1.163-1(b).
