Can mom or dad sign the 8879 for minor children (ages 9 & 11) just like they would sign the 1040?

That is what we do in our office. I was unable to find anything to support this as being acceptable. Logically, it would seem to be so as signing the 8879 is authorizing electronic signature of the 1040, but as we know, logic doesn't necessarily apply.

look in Pub 929, I believe it is there.

Include the notation "By (name), parent of minor child".
