Does anyone know if it is possible to import fixed asset details from QBs Enterprise Solutions into Lacerte? I've looked in the help and can't find any information, but it sure seems like we should be able to do this.

Lacerte happens to be ranked right up there with the best of them, Fred.

Did you look at the csv options?

I don't use LaCrete so I don't know the import options, however, if it can do a csv or text import old QB mostly can do an Excel export...

I agree with you roy, it's amazing when you think that something that should be so common and available on these high end programs and they are not.

why? probably to make sure you stay within the product family. If they all allowed import export as they should, we could utilize the best programs regardless of the branding.

True, true, true...

I'm going to go in order of posts.

So Fred, oops sorry, I guess I misunderstood your reply about the "real" software. Actually, in this case the client had an expensive program with all the fancy modules. And while I don't know the program, I would guess they probably use about 50% of it. The kicker on this is that they would take the information from the computer reports and enter it into manual journals and the G/L!!! (This is an old, established company, and the founder felt more comfortable with a manual system.) Anyway, prior CPA got sick, and they decided it was time to go completely computerized. Only the owners and I will be using the program, and the IT person gave his blessings, so I think we're good to go on that issue, at least with respect to this client.

Roy, no, I haven't looked at the csv options, but that's a good suggestion.

Fred, Intuit makes both QBs and Lacerte, so it would make even more sense for them to allow transfers between the two. However, I haven't even used their TB transfer recently because it didn't work very well when I tried it a couple of years ago.

Natalie, I used the TB transfer extensively this past tax season and really liked it. Perhaps give it another shot.

Well then, don't keep us in suspense. What were you going to say earlier? (Am I going to need my Freddy Dictionary for this one.)

Fsteincpa (talk|edits) said:

No dictionary needed.

I was just going to make a condescending chauvinistic statement to the tune of that is why we don't let Natalie drive machinery, we keep her on her bikes. She sometimes gets confooooooosed.

But then, I thought about all the things I have learned and the growth I have attained over the past few months and decided against saying it.

Natalie, try to use an intermediary program like MS Excel. While Lacerte may not allow an import from another program, I believe it allows an import from a csv file. Just rename the extension csv instead of xls. QB allows this as well. Saves a lot of time.

Bush thank you for the suggestion. I'll take a look at that.

And my dear Fred, I thank you for holding your tongue.
