I have recently printed the Lacerte Tax Organizer for 2008. Upon reviewing the Lacerte Questionnaire there is one question under Purchases, Sales and Debt that reads:

Did you sell or do you plan to sell any dividend generating stocks or mutual funds during the first 60 days of 2009?

Have I missed something? What type of relevance does this have on a 2008 Tax Return? Does it have something to do with a Short Sale?

Wash sale rules and qualified dividends.

At year-end the wash sale rules would of concern for 30 days before & after Dec 31, not 60 days after. And I don't think dividends are relevant. -- Larry Hess, CPA | Albuquerque, NM

Sure, you only need info for the next 30 days to check for wash sales, but don't you need data for 60 days for the holding period requirements in Sec. 1(h)(11)(B)(iii)(I) for qualified dividends? I guess they figured, just ask once for the longest of the two periods.
