Question on filling in information on Form 8829. It appears that for line 40 of the form that the depreciation percentage has to be entered in the appropriate box in the detail screen. I took the appropriate percentage off of the instructions for form 8829. However, I thought the program would automatically calculate the depreciation. Does it not do this? I had to fill in the depreciation amount and then it carried to line 29 of the form. Thank your for your help.

do you have to link an asset to the 8829 from the 4562 input screen?

You have to fill in the info on an asset worksheet, like any other asset, but you use the Home Office Code and number it Home Office #1. Then it will flow to the 8829.

Okay, I will try that. I had it in the depreciation schedule, but that didn't seem to make any difference. When you refer to an asset worksheet, what exactly are you talking about? I will have to see where the Home Office Code goes. Can you tell me the screen number? I will do some checking on my own. Sometimes the worst part of using Lacerte is find where to fill in what blanks. Thanks again.

Okay, I found it. Screen 22 Depreciation & click Business Use of Home. Then evidently link it to the 8829. Thanks.

By the way, if you want the 8829 form to calculate using the percentage from the 8829 instructions, the depreciation method is 87. Then, the 8829 calculates using the percentage entered.
