I know I have not contributed much to this forum...but I wanted to share some exciting news! I have read probably every thread on the Business Growth Community and have gained a lot of knowledge of what works and what doesn't with marketing. I plan to implement some of them soon!

But--I was searching through Craigslist for those wanting part time bookkeepers, and found a jackpot....and better yet, they contacted me today and I meet with them tomorrow.

They are a financial services consulting firm, I think they deal mainly with companies going to bankruptcy or whatever based on what I read on their website...and they need contract bookkeepers to dive into their client's books and clean them up. This guy was like, can you start tomorrow?? I only have three monthly clients, that I have had since basically the 4th quarter of 2007...didn't look to expand because I was focusing on being mommy. Due to some unfortunate circumstances in my health, I decided to focus on something else for awhile and expand my business. I already took one step to have some credentials by taking the SEE exams (I have my last one to take on August 1...and boy am I tired of studying...but I WILL NOT fail!!).

Anyway--this is like the perfect way to supplement my income (though I do not have much in tax income yet because I didn't want to focus much on that yet, and even getting monthly bookkeeping clients is difficult to do). I do not even have to search for the clients...the financial firm has them already and needs my help! How perfect!

Well---let's hope it turns out perfect. I meet with him tomorrow and hopefully start cleaning up some books on Tuesday. From what I been told, the company I am going to fix up has like 10 credit cards that have never been reconciled, the bank accounts are the same...who knows if they have done any tax returns?? This is my cup of tea! I love clean up work! Everyone has their niche...I think I finally figured out what mine is with accounting.

Just wanted to share the good news...and sorry for the ramble and long post.

Wow! Sounds like a great opportunity, let us know how it goes. You never know who you will meet and it might give you some good referrals.

Cheers

Pete

Poor kid. I think he's got mixed up in a racket. Well, at least we have something he wrote to remember him by if he gets locked up.

Not quite sure if you are referring to me CrowJD...but I am a female...

We're none of us ever sure who Crow is referring to.

"Not quite sure if you are referring to me CrowJD...but I am a female... "

Uh-oh. Hmmm. Well..... I have no problems with that at all Sjp, if you feel that you are female, that's what's important, and there are even doctors that can formally change the physical aspects of your gender.

[P.S. Just kidding <smile>. Sjp, just be careful, and don't end up going out on one of these Craiglist things and end up being knocked on the head and shipped to China as a sex slave.]

Ha! Thanks for my well being! I am still alive...and already have a project starting on Tuesday. They are a reputable company in the Northern VA area.

Sasha, I remember you! I've spent some time in Virginia. Be careful of those VA police. They won't even let an honest woman sip from the Vodka bottle while driving~ (Put it in a paper cup with a little beet juice. Is good for you.) Good luck!

But Southern Comfort is generally considered acceptable, or so I understand.

Wow, someone that loves cleanup accounting work! All you tax people in the VA area take note for those DIY QB new clients you get; you now have a resource!!!

Ha Joanmcq!

I guess I more like the results on the clean up work...and the way the client feels knowing their financial records are in order. I like the challenge of getting the records right too...so yeah. haha!

Hey Sasha- how is the project going?

Pretty good thus far. They really have some messed up books though...and the owner of the company realizes that she can not use her in house accountant for accounting...she doesn't understand accounting functions!

I probably have another 30-40 hrs of clean up work and then they will want maintenance work 2-3 times a month...so at least it is some steady income on just that one client. I am hoping they will throw more of this my way after the clean up work is done.
