My software(prosystem) calculated that the taxpayer would receive a rebate check in the amount of $350. When the client went onto the IRS website to find out where his check was, it stated that his AGI was to high and did not qualify for the rebate. I then went onto the IRS website where it said calculate my rebate and it also came up with $350. I used the amounts from the tax return.

The taxpayer called the IRS and they all they do is go on the same website we do and told him that the AGI was to high. They are unable to see any information in their own system as to the rebate.

Here are the stats:

Married filing Joint 2 dependent children ages 4 and 1 Wages 164,575 No SS Income Total income 179,260 1/2 SE Tax 259 AGI 179,001 0 Child tax credit Tax after credits 25,450 0 non taxable combat pay.

I want to resolve this for the taxpayer so I figured I would write to the IRS. The IRS told me they do not have a speciefic address that I should write to and suggested the address where the return would have been mailed. I think that it would end up getting lost in the shuffle there.

Does anyone have any other Ideas or suggestions?

Thanks.

Thanks D & T I put in a search first but I must not have used the right words because I didn't come up with that discussion, I will check it out and see if it helps.

It probably won't; as JR notes, the rebate is self-corrective when the 2008 return is filed. Do note Asmith's comment.

No offense intended, but it amazes me that one who has AGI of $180k is hanging around the mailbox looking for $350 check from the govt.

the real trainwreck will occur when these folks (not these specific folks) but folks earning $200k+/year who want to retire but are pennyless because the yard is currently full of Escalades and SkiNautiques, the house is full of granite, XBOX360s and $10,000 plasma TVs, credit cards are max'd to the hilt, 401(k) balance is about $3400 because they took an $90k distribution last year when they bought the $450k house that is now worth $375k, they are making payments to the IRS because they didn't have the $30k to send the Uncle Sam (related to the distribution) and no social security to fall back on.

THink the housing market is a crisis? Just wait til the boomers' kids want to retire. It ain't happening.

Hehe. All mine are lining up for an extra treatment at the plastic surgeon or dermatologist, or someone calling themselves a plastic surgeon or dermatologist.

I think you can get a lip plumping, or a good sanding down for around $350.00. One doctor around the corner will rub cream on your behind, and chant the Karma Sutra for $200.00, but only on Wednesday afternoons. Otherwise, expect to pay in the area of $500.

I've added tooth whitening to my list of services now, whereon I got the idea from a huge quanity of extra-strength bleach I have leftover from one of my absurd trips to the home improvement store.

Go down to the bottom, the last question, your client will probably get the check later. There was a problem with some software, and your software is on the list.
