| After reading and hearing several people talk about the IRS forums, I've finally decided to partake. Signed up for the Las Vegas session.
Because Las Vegas is in such a slump right now due to the economy, I couldn't see paying $146 a night at the Mandalay Hotel (the special group rate). Used my COMPS and online offers to get 2 nights FREE at Ballys, 2 nights for $35 each at the Excalibur, and then after the session I'll move downtown to the Main Street Station for 2 nights FREE. Only issue is I've got to check out twice and have the bellman hold my sack....er...suitcase, while I'm in the classes. Flying out of Asheville would have been over $450 round trip, but since I've still got a 2nd house in Marietta GA I'll go there for the 4th of July weekend and fly out of Atlanta for a savings of an additional $150. July 4th is always fun in Atlanta. Last year I saw the fireworks from Centennial Olympic Park. So I'll report back whether the CPE is worth $206 or not. (I used the special NAEA code to save $10 on the registration for that, too.)

| I'll also report back what I did with all of that saved money. HA HA HA. You know where it will go...Ballys, Excalibur, Main Stret Station craps tables. | |

| Oh I do plan on taking in some shows. I always go to the Tix 4 Tonight booth and see what is half price or on sale. Last year while at the California Society of Enrolled Agents Super Seminar, I took in a different magic show every night. Totally awsome. I had wanted to see Bette Midler at Caesars, but she won't be there that week - only Cher. While I like Cher (who doesn't who has lived in any of the past four decades), I don't feel like paying $125 to see her. | |

| I'm working security at the one in Atlanta to defray the expense. We had a few last year that were disruptive: your usual: drunks, scoflaws. A few from some tax firm (JH?, Liberty?), I can't remember, anyway, a few were making disruptive noises during the seminars, and one was caught looking up the assistant deputy district manager for collections skirt (looking for a quarter to make a phone call he said), or trying to....I took care of him with a sap. As a subcontractor, I'm under federal jurisdiction, so I can use excessive force, I even worked with a guy let go from Blackwater for mental instability (if you can imagine that); he taught me a few things.
We were specifically instructed not to pick on those of foreign birth, however, scanning the audience, I couldn't find anyone not of foreign birth, so I had to pick on them anyway.

| The last, and only time I attended the one in Atlanta, there were no seatings outside in the lobby where the forumns were located. Ever see 200+ old coots lumbering along on old ankles and knees trying to find a place to sit?
But, the straw that broke this attendees' back was that the bar on the first floor did not open until something like 5pm. Crow, come on down.

| Phil, you're getting into some classified material here. Rest assured that the problem of the "gray hairs" hanging on for dear life in our profession, long after they have achieved a negligible salvage value, has long occupied the time of some of the sharpest minds at the Service.
This year, we plan to offer three things to see if we can weed some of them out. It's a pilot program we are rolling out in Atlanta, and we plan to take it nationwide, depending on the strain it puts on the local 911 service. First, we have some wheelchair batteries we got wholesale from a shady battery dealer in Northern Taiwan. You may remember the exploding laptops? He's the guy. We're offering them at 50% off, including installation. They have been guaranteed to go off upon detecting the closing credits to "Wheel of Fortune" on the TV. Hey, it's not us that has to clean up the hotel rooms! Actually, he's promised a slow burn rather than an outright explosion. Second, we are offering an exercise class, at the Forum, reserved for those 65 and over, with Chef Rachel Ray as our instructor. That lady can make anyone so nervous just watching her twitter around on her show "30 Minute Meals" that we're bound to get a few cardiacs out of that. She's promised to put on a cooking demonstration afterwards that'll take care of a few more, no doubt. Finally, we plan to heavily advertise a free lunch buffet, and then renege on it at the last moment. If you have ever seen a group of old cheepskates belly up to a dinner buffet anywhere, you know what this will do to the blood pressure. Zoom. They find out they are not getting that free buffet (with shrimp)... and whoa: standby Emergency Room! We're expecting a maximum knock-down on this one, as Orkin would say. Any further suggestions, please let me know, but don't let it get out. We don't want them to come prepared with extra heart medicine.

| Did you say... choke?
Crow (scribbling furiously) "make note, day old heavily powdered donuts". I imagine some old donuts with no coffee around will work wonders. Thanks, NMex, I knew the suggestions would roll in!
