| I have a Partnership client that just received an IRS notice for the filing of Year 2006 Form 2758. This form is for extending a variety of returns, most commonly a Fiduciary return Form 1041. Why would the IRS want a Partnership to file an extension for one of those variety of forms listed on the 2758? | |

| Our clients have also received these notices. We think that there is a problem with the IRS computers. | |

| Thanks, SoCal. Called the PPS and they confirmed this is a glitch. However, they did say that the notice was sent because my client has not yet filed their 2006 1065. So, the notice should not be ignored. | |

| One of my clients has also received this notice. The difference is that they file a schedule C as a disregarded entity and have already filed their return for 2006. Any advice? | |

| Had a client to drop off a IRS letter requesting Form 2758 for their partnership too. | |

| Me, too. I thought this was an extension request, but could not even find it on the IRS website. Wasn't this form replaced by 7004 several years ago? My memory fades... | |

| I just got the same notice.
Mine is for a 1065. My first thought was that it was because one of the partners ( the wife) is a Canadian citizen. Then I can't find a 2758 at the IRS website. It looks like it may just be part of this "glitch". Thanks for the above comments. May have saved a bunch of unnecessary research. | |

| We got the same notice for a closed out partnership. This has got to be a glitch. Wonder how many hundreds of thousands were sent out. | |

| I spoke with the tax practioners hotline this morning and the IRS is looking for the actual return, be it a 1041, 1065 or 1120. It appears that this is the only returns that are being effected. There may have been a truck that the IRS was using to transport the returns to storage that burned and distroyed the returns. I am having my clients sign a duplicate return and mail along with a letter explaining why the return is being filed along with a copy of the request for form 2758. | |
