I hope you are all well and caught up on your rest.

I am reluctant to write this, but right now I feel helpless and I thought I would ask for a small favor. I don't mean to be selfish, but I find myself this post-tax season with a "minor" health issue and I ask for your strength in thoughts and prayers as every day that goes by, I am no better and no worse.

I noticed myself having trouble with vertigo and balance recently. I thought maybe it was allergies, but recently when I talked with my sister, she thought I sounded "drunk." I am a lousy Irishman as I rarely consume alcohol. I've also had double vision. I've been to the doctor and they are running tests. I won't know more for a few days. I'm sure it's nothing serious, but it's the not knowing but that is simply the most agonizing.

Unfortunately, my wife has little sympathy because she tells me "I've had bigger things on my eyeball." But I haven't told her everything because my mother is the world's worst hypochondriac and she thinks I am like my mom. My wife forgets that I walked around on a broken hip for several months (yes, it's as painful as it sounds). If I tell my parents (they are in Florida for a week), they will rush home and act like I'm dying. Only my oldest sister knows how I feel.

I don't take many client calls right now and if I do I tell them I have a bad cold. They understand and are nice about it, but I am not letting on about what's going on until I know. It's probably something very simple, but it still drives you nuts.

Thanks for your time and indulgence. I apologize for doing this, but I need to vent my frustrations a bit.

I hope you all have a super weekend.

Thanks,

Tom

Hey Tom, if you are having problems with your hearing also, especially if confined to one ear, it may be Meniere's disease. Of course, a lot of things can come under vertigo, but if you are dizzy to the point of throwing up, Meniere's is a good guess.

Try to absolutely cut out salt, caffine, and alcohol for a while, and believe me, it's not easy to cut out salt, as it shows up in everything. This will be a test to see how you do. Also, if it turns out to be Meniere's, then insist that you have some Diazepam 10mg [not Antivert (Meclizine), which is a joke of an RX for serious vertigo] to carry around with you at all times (because it can strike at any time). It is the ONLY thing that will stop the dizziness, and you may well have to have Phenergan to keep it down. Good luck whatever it is.

Please know you're in my thoughts, and let us all know as soon as possible.

Don't borrow trouble and think the worst until you know exactly what you are dealing with....yeah, I know that's easy to say & hard to do. And stay on those doctors for a definitive answer as soon as possible! Don't know you, or your wife, or your relationship....but I'd be hurt if my husband kept these kind of concerns from me (even if they turned out to be nothing, as I hope is the case for you). The doctors evidently didn't discount your concerns; neither should she. Good luck.

Tom, take care of yourself. I agree with Belle, try to stay calm until you hear from the people who know about these things that there is something to be concerned about, then do what they tell you. Kind of like the client to whom you give advice. You are happy when they listen and follow the advice and when they don't - well it's often an ugly picture. We are numbers people, not medical people. So take care and watch an extra episode of Hannah Montana with your daughter this weekend. Good luck.

I did tell my wife everything. She's upset, but she doesn't think it's serious. One of my doctors thought I had a "stroke" but who knows. All I know I had the worst weekend since I had my hip replaced. I was in bed most of Sunday and I can barely walk without falling over. I really hate this. It's not me and I am miserable beyond belief.

I hope you all have a great day. Talk with you soon.

You and your family are in our thoughts. Saltines can be super helpful with the vertigo induced nausea. Please remember to stay positive & try to focus on all of the good things that happen to you; one being that this gives you the opportunity for some R&R and pampering.

Positive thoughts = Positive outcomes

Fred, Tom just told me the Hooters Girls haven't visited yet. It sounds like you've been slacking since you came back from vacation!

Seriously, Tom asked me to let everyone know that he "hasn't parted the world yet" but has had a preliminary diagnosis of MS. He also said thank you for your thoughts and prayers. He expects to be back Monday.

Well, ya need to tell Tom that he has to allow the visits the same way I do and that is by taking a mindcation. Is a wonderful thing. Plus, it does keep you out of trouble going places you really shouldn't.

Nat, get me Tom's address and I'll see what I can do about the hug squad dropping off some wings. <EG>

Natalie, thanks for the update. Remind Tom we are all sending a lot of positive thoughts his way.....and are available to help if there's anything tangible (help with returns?) we can do.
