Client has an HSA with a high deductible health plan. The plan does not include dental coverage and they don't have a separate dental plan. Can they use the HSA money to pay for the out of pocket dental costs? Thank you in advance.

See 223(d)(2)(A). The answer to your question is yes.

In fact, under 223(d)(2)(A), you can buy over the counter Aspirin through your HSA.

another ? about hsa use. i'm an s owner/ee. earlier this year i took $5300 out of the corp ckng acct to get a bank ck for laser eye surgery since i needed it quick and was in the middle of setting up the hsa funding acct (already had the hsa med ins policy since Dec'07

set-up and pd thru corp ckng acct). a week or so later i online deposited from the s corp acct $3800 into the hsa w/Sovereign. i know the eye laser surgery not countable against the deductible on the hsa med ins plan, but it does qualify as a medical dedcution, thus it qualifies as an hsa acct expense. now i want to have the $3800 returned to the corp ckng acct online to offset the $5300 ck leaving me w/net $1500 distribution. i realize that the med ins pymts and the $3800 hsa contribution go in fed'l wagess on my w-2 (not fica/med wages), which I can then deduct on my own 1040 as se med ins and form 8889 hsa agi deductions. MY QUESTION FOLLOWS: -Sovereign couldn't tell me what distribution code would appear on Form 1099-SA. checking it out on Sovereign online making a withdrawal it appears that I designate by what type medical expense it is. Hopefully this winds up w/distribution code 1-normal distribution on the 1099. Any thoughts or comments appreciated?
