Has anyone used an online tax filing site for a back year that is creditable.

I'm a tax preparer with a client who I need to get his 2006 filed and showing up on the IRS database as soon as possible. We use Drake but we can't e-file old years. Do you know if the online sites e-files directly to the IRS for past years? I need a good, reputable site. He was denied a loan because he hasn't filed 2006 and he could lose the house if he doesn't get it filed to get a loan.

Of course it's 4/10 and I've got lots of free time to answer turbo tax like questions to re-do and re-enter a tax return. (sorry for the sarcasm, I'm just over the edge)

It is my understanding that efiling for any giving year is shut down on 10/15. You can't efile prior year returns.

My suggestion is to prepare the return and go to a walkin office and get it date stamped. Get a date stamped copy.

I thought about taking it to an IRS office - but I thought I might be out of my mind at this time of year. Anyone know what their process is at the IRS location. Do they enter everything while you wait or they stamp the date and time on the return and send it to the back for someone to enter it?

They just accept it and send it off to the processing center.

The IRS clerk at the public office date stamps the first page and enters some info into their computer system and then sends the whole return to the proper processing office. But I've only done this for prior year returns where I've had a power of attorney. Can a preparer w/out a POA walk in w/ someone's return to file?

Yes. They do not ask for ID.

I've been using http://www.highpricetaxes.com to file my federal and state taxes. I'd highly recommend their service.

You can't efile back years, so what is the point of your post?
