Help! I have a client who donated personal property to a charitable organization out-of-state in 2006. The donee organization and the appraiser completed and signed Form 8283 as required. The IRS has up-dated the form since this was completed and now we have to have the appraiser sign an additional statement acknowledging the appraiser's knowledge that there are penalties to the appraiser for gross missstatement of value...do you think a faxed copy of the 8283 will suffice for my client (a farmer) to meet the filing deadline of March 1st? We should be able to have the original shortly afterwards. Thanks!

The instructions for Form 8283 mention "copy" several times, so I believe a copy of the signed form can be sent to the IRS.

This is my least favorite common form, what a PITA it can be.

When does the March 1st deadline apply?
