In pub 969, Qualified expenses explicitly exclude "Amounts paid for long-term care coverage or expenses." I was wondering if diabetes care (insulin, lancets, test strips, etc) would fall under this exclusionary clause? Thanks.

LTC is in-home care, assisted living, or nursing home expenses.

Jc, insulin and diabetes related supplies are a qualified benefit in most FSA's. In fact, in most FSA's over the counter medications are allowed. You would need to read the plan document.

Client is trying to lose weight and is thinking of joining a "hypnosis weight loss" program. She says her doctor actually approved it. If it is approved by the doctor, does it mean the program cost can qualify for her FSA? Please advise and thank you.
