| Could anyone provide some web links where we can earn some FREE CPE Credits without having to be bound by other long term contracts, whatever...?
Need a few extra CPE's before recertifying this summer. Thanx in advance.

| My tax software has "free" cpe with it.
Also use: I think Inuit has some CPE somewhere.

| Some of the tax guides come with free CPE, too. You might also want to check Pass Online. | |

| RoyDaleOne, I took your post literally and I am very interested in Inuit taxation. In fact, I have found a good bit of information on Inuit taxation.
Of course, you have to remember that the Labrador Inuit will continue to pay tax in accordance with federal and provincial taxation legislation. The Nunatsiavut and Community Governments will however, be able to make laws for direct taxation of Inuit for Government purposes. http://www.laa.gov.nl.ca/laa/liaclaims/pdf/ch20.pdf http://www.atns.net.au/agreement.asp?EntityID=2243 I would suggest going in summer as it's pretty cold up there in the winter.

| why would any professional be so cheap and not care about their clients enough to get the CPE they need, whether or not it cost? Good CPE pays, it doesn't cost. Free CPE usually amounts to 15 minutes of learning and 45 minutes of a sales pitch. Why are you shortchanging your clients? They deserve better than that, or they should leave you and go to a professional who gets good CPE. | |

| Azikel, the IRS Nationwide Tax Forum is in New York City in August. CPE there is VERY inexpensive and quite a number of participants on this board go to various sites. | |

| Kevin, I've actually had some very good CPE that is free. I agree, however, that some of the lunch courses offered by investment advisers and some of the stuff offered through webinars is not the best, especially if sponsored by a payroll or other vendor. | |

| Kevin, when making a commit you should not generalize. Try taking one of the courses then make a judgment on the course or provider. | |

| WBR, did you read Kevin’s post as a direct response to yours? Because I didn’t – as a general philosophy, it [his post] is something I am in complete agreement with. Now I think Azikel (the OP) specifically said “need a few extra CPE’s before recertifying” …and in that situation I can see that the content may not really matter, it’s all about the credits (been there, done that). But trying to get 100% of your annual CPE “on the cheap” is likely to add very little to your base of knowledge.
I downloaded one of those FunCPE courses a year or so ago. What a joke. You read some dense gov’t publication, and take a test where the answers are direct word-for-word quotes out of the text. Some analysis or interpretation might actually be helpful, but of course they can’t afford to pay somebody to do that. The only time they differ from the “quotes out of the text” concept is when they get cute. I kid you not, an actual possible answer on a multiple choice question was “(c) if an outside auditor admits to liking the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding.” Now I will say that I checked out the link you gave for cpatechnology’s webcasts, and they actually look like they might be quite interesting. Whether or not those subjects are worthy of CPE – well, that I can’t judge until I’ve tried one out. But I definitely thank you for the link; I am always on the hunt for additional providers of quality CPE.

| I sure hope my cardiologist has gotten all of his required continuing ed from inexpensive sources so that he won't charge me quite as much when I need heart transplant surgery. | |

| IRS has free CPE, such as their telephone forums (one soon). And, inexpensive CPE, such as their Tax Talk Today (tomorrow, Tuesday). QuickBooks does free CPE; I'm going to two courses Wednesday afternoon in NYC at the Hilton. Yout tax prep software might have free or inexpensive CPE. A lot is available right now -- after tax season and before summer vacations -- and again in the fall. So, if you need just a few credits now, you should be able to find something on line or in a city near you this May &/or June. | |

| If you want free or cheap CPE, work for HR Block. They're offering a lot of live courses and a lot of CCH online classes (I think these are better then the live courses I've taken). The only charge is $20/year unlimited for regular employees (Circ 230 practioners get this for free). It's a great benefit. | |

| For those looking for a quality free cpe course the AICPA is offering the following webcast for free: “Understanding FASB's Accounting Standards Codification (FREE Webcast).” But you will need to sign up fast since the webcast is being held May 15th. | |

| You may volunteer to pilot new self-study online courses from CPELink and earn as many free credits as you want. They ask you to finish the courses in two weeks and it is available on a first come first serve basis. However, I always find a good list of courses to pick from. | |

| Western CPE offers free 1-credit tax webcasts from time to time. You can just register and log on to attend at the scheduled times. They send you the CE certificate afterwards.
Right now the speakers are Sharon Kreider and Karen Brosi for most of them -- great teachers.

| CPE Link offers couple of live webinars every month (typically 1-2CPE credit) on interesting topics. Check their live webcast page. They also release pilot courses for self-study once a month. However, it is on a first come first serve basis and sell out quickly. You may check their self-study page | |

Like other reputable preparers i spend a good amount of time going back and fixing prior years -- fixing years in which the prior preparer messed up something. I think that there are some preparers out there who should be beaten. And that's not to imply that i'm some sort of genius. Rather it's the mere matter of me doing what i'm paid for. I try to do a good job and not rip anyone off. Like any decent preparer does. So no, I'm NOT the one shortchanging clients regardless of what kind of CPE i get.
