| Policeperson is active in FOP, a 501-c-3 organization I believe. Is delegate to state/national meeting. I have no problem designating unreimbursed portion of travel expenses as a charitable contribution to the organization. I am not so confident in regard to expenses relating to "campaign" for election to officer position in the state/national organization such as posters, pens and other "vote for me" trinkets etc. Any thoughts? | |

| I'm thinking it would be UEBE if anything. It's not a political office of anykind? | |

| Of course unreimbursed employee business expenses on a 2106 doesn't do most people any good due to the 2% limitation. If you have expenses related to volunteer work for a charity it is a charitable contribution. I just thought campaign expenses for a charity org officer's election was over the top - though there is some benefit to the charity I suppose. | |

| You can't deduct the expense of running for political office in any form. | |

| D&T, I don't think running for, e.g., the church board of trustees, is running for "political office." | |
