Someone asked me because they cashed out stock and bought other stock the day after if there's a way to roll the gain into the new stock, I don't believe so but I wanted to check and see if there was any exception to the rules of an exchange under section 1031.

There are exceptions in corporate reorganizations, but your OP implied that they simply sold one stock at market and bought something else.
