| Supposedly you can efile tomorrow on the extenders, but don't treat my word as gospel. Deb [Deback] seems to be the resident expert on this part of Proseries. | |

| Bud the forms by you mentioned have no restrictions in ProSeries. They all final as far as I know. | |

| I accidentally efiled a Form 5695 earlier tonight, after a client dropped off his Form 8879, because I forgot that I had a "Form 5695" note for that client in my ever-growing stack of "delayed 8879s". Just got the rejection back and the error message is different this time:

| I'll be efiling all of the extenders I have stacked up tomorrow and will let you all know what happens. | |

| Here is the link to Intuit's FAQ concerning the update for Form 5695:

| Boy - you're daring to e-file on the first day it's open :) Any bettors on if the IRS system will crash from overload? | |
| February 3, 2007 | |
| I'm not concerned about a crash but whether their system will even be ready to accept the extenders. I'm more concerned with Forms 5695, 4136, 8606, and 2210, since I have more of these waiting to be efiled (about ten or so now and will have several more) on 02/09, 02/21, or 02/22--and having to explain to clients that their returns will be delayed for up to four weeks. I'll be getting several education and educator expenses this month and hope there won't be any more delays on the extenders. I only have about five sales tax returns to efile today, out of about 115 completed so far, so if the system is accepting extenders today, I'll vote for no crash. The Bottom Line is I have other things that are more stressful than worrying about an IRS crash today. :) Like stress #1 is that I have to get tuit right now... | |

| The system survives the mid-April crunch every year so I suspect it will handle this. | |

| I'm telling my unhappy clients to call their Congressman. They're the ones that dilly-dallied with this. | |
| February 3, 2007 | |
| So far, my clients haven't been unhappy about the delays, but I thought 5695 could be filed today, so I'm unhappy about having to call them all and tell them it will be either 2/9 or 2/21. (And I usually mention to them that Congress is at fault for the delays.) I'll be efiling the sales tax returns in a few minutes and should get the ackfiles later today. I'll let you know what happened then. | |

| Got the program update this morning and efiled the sales tax returns.
The update now says that 4136 and 8606 are delayed until 02/10. 5695 still says ready to efile, even though it will be rejected by the IRS. 2210 is delayed until 2/22. Also, I just tried to efile a 1310 with a court-appointed rep, and ProSeries is telling me I can't efile Form 1310, when Part I, box B is checked and to send in the paper returns. I had it set up to file 8453 and attach 1310 and the court-appointment document. BL - Who should unhappy preparers call?
| February 3, 2007 | |
| Another ProSeries problem that I haven't mentioned yet is, when you fill out a 1310, ProSeries does not print it with the return. The only way to print it is to go to Form 1310 and choose print selected forms.
This is the first year since 1994 that I'm feeling very frustrated with the ProSeries Pro program...more so than other years when there have been bugs in the program. Also, the navigation in the Form 1099-R worksheet is still as screwed up as it was last year. The bug in the Michigan program where it includes the prior year property tax refund in household income on Form MI1040CR hasn't been fixed yet. Yesterday, I had a taxable Michigan refund that was not included on Form 1040, line 10. I know this isn't the place to post bugs, but like David said, I'm also not fond of going to the Intuit site, and since this is Intuit's site, I'm just posting things here.

| I'd call my Congressman too (if I had time). Deb - I agree - I don't like Intuit's site. Too many stupid questions like "how do I write a check?" Needs a separate site for those that know what they're doing (and the ProAdviser site's not much better). | |

| The 1310 is listed in "Which forms print with the return" with a default of "If Required." You would think that if the preparer takes the time to fill out the form, Proseries would print it, but I seem to recall this happened in the past. Could be wrong, though. I would believe IRS will not allow an E-filed return with a 1310 even using the 8453. I think they would at least want the perception that their people were examining the documents sent to see that they were proper before releasing a refund, and with E-filing, the intent on IRS' part is to process the return quickly. Whether the documents are examined on a paper return is another matter, but certainly they want that perception on our part. | |

| I've always been able to efile 1310 in the past with 8453....until this year. | |

| D&T - I just changed my options to "if any data." Thanks for the reminder about that. Had to end my last msg quickly because my 1:00 pm client walked in at that time.
Anyway, I fixed the two 1310s I had (to file manually) and called the five 5695 clients. All were understanding and said okay, except for one client who wanted me to delete the 5695 (since he's getting a refund of $7,200), so I reprinted his revised return and may do an amended return for the 5695. What's so frustrating is that I could have gotten at least four returns done in the two hours that I had to spend messing around with these delayed forms this morning.

| Thugh we operate differently, I have my frustrations too. For my 10am telephone appointment, I'd received wife's W-2 a week ago, and a Fedex on Thursday that contained a 1099R. I called them and asked, "Where's Dennis' W-2?" "It's in the brown envelope." Of course, I don't have it, so she said she would head off to her office and fax it this afternoon along with the 1098 etc etc of which she'd made copies. Go to the post office and in my box is a brown envelope mailed 1/23/07 from Bangor ME with proper postage etc. 11 days to get here. Called her and let her know to call off her trip to her office. Of course, my original fear was that I had lost it. I am good at doing things like that.

| I just received this message from Intuit:
Customer Service Messages for EFIN XXXXXX Important information about temporary acknowledgement delays: Due to coordination with the IRS cut-over of electronic filing systems to support returns impacted by the Extender Bill, all returns filed to the Intuit Electronic Filing Center the evening of Jan 2 and the morning of Jan 3 were sent to the IRS after the 11am drains on Saturday Jan 3. All returns have been transmitted to the IRS and acknowledgements are expected to start coming back within a few hours of the IRS afternoon drains which range from 3-6 pm Pacific depending on the service center your returns are filed to. We apologize for acknowledgement turnaround times being slower than normal due to today's cut over.
