Can an employee who qualifies for the home office deduction chose not to include the mortgage interest & real estate taxes in the calculation for the 2106?

I don't think the interest & RE tax go onto the 2106, since the 2106 flows to Misc Itemized, subject to 2% floor. Take those items directly on Sch A.

So if they do not take mortgage interest and taxes what would they take that would be of any benefit? Utilities, Insurance? It should go on the 8829 which flows it to the Schedule A, 2% like jdug said.

No one will score big due to an EE home office deduction. Biggest advantage may be to make all mileage from home to temp job sites deductible, if the EE does significant driving in connection with job.

Can't use 8829 and flow through to Sch. C unless TP has set up as a sole proprietorship - BTW the path leads to line 12 on 1040 and is not subject to a 2% threshold.

So an employee's home office goes on 2106 and flows through to Sch. A where it is subject to the 2% threshold.

But I don't understand the original question, why wouldn't TP take full advantage (big or small) of the home office if he/she qualifies?

I am sure Jokadah meant the Form 8829 "Input Screen" which you can designate to flow thru to a 2106. No Form 8829 is produced. Just a Worksheet that looks an awful lot like it.

I don't understand your question about not understanding the original question?

Thinks for the insight into your screens - I still have trouble following what the computer is doing so I have to go look at the forms. The "question" was written without before being thought through - Sorry.
