I managed to fool them again. I passed Part 2 (two weeks ago) and Part 3 (yesterday). Whew what a relief. I mailed off the enrollment application.

Part 2 was reasonable. Not as many computation questions as I expected.

Part 3 was picky, picky. Details of penalties. Ugh. Some were very subtle. One hinged on the connotation of the word 'purported.' Since my lips are sealed, the flavor of the question was like this:

Which is the best church to attend:

A. Where Pastor Crow is purported to deliver a mighty fine sermon.

B. Where Parson Brown gives a damnably good talk.

Thanks to all on TA for putting up with my idiotic questions and answers. I feel humbled by all the more there is to learn. I feel like I've done the breadth of tax law, now I need to delve more deeply into certain fields.

Do you see niche areas that are under represented?

Thanks! EasternPA

Congratulations!

You don't become an expert by guessing, that's why the test is picky. Welcome, expert!

Congratulations! It has been the year of the new EA's on this board.

Part III was particularly difficult due to the poor questions, IMHO. Several hinged on what they meant by the question...not whether I knew the pertinent facts but rather how I interpreted what I THOUGHT their intent was. I say test the pertinent facts not a person's ability to guess as you what you are asking.

But the better man won, congrats!

Congratulations EasternPA!

But let me warn you...the longer I hang out on this board, the more firmly convinced I become that I know...NOTHING.

Mark Twain could have been talking about some of the top people around here when he said, "(A pilot) has to know more than any single person ought to be allowed to know." and "I can't understand how such people can walk around with so much knowledge in their heads without needing crutches."

Kevin, Michael, Pete, NMexEA,

Thanks for your support!

Kevin, tax laws are so strict: Facts X and Y and Z must be true, then Rule A applies. So it's disconcerting, when a question only implies X and Y and Z is true, then does A apply. I constantly want to have point of discussion with the question creator. But I tell my self, pick the best choice - don't read too much into the question.

In real life I can ask the client to clarify / verify the facts.

Pete, Thanks, I plan to join NAEA as soon as I get my gold plated EA card with my EA number. I hear there are four cherubs, one in each corner, and the IRS Commissioner standing on a cloud as he ascends to a tax haven.

NMexEA, Yo que se que yo no se nada. I know I dont know nothing. I just keep trying to learn. I'd rather look like a fool in front of the customer and ask for help, rather than the client look like fool before the IRS.

EasternPA, I don't want to burst your bubble or anything but the IRS Commissioner is more likely to be riding a fart bubble down to the pits of hadees! :D

In the event the IRS happens to be reading this while considering my enrollment application, that was a JOKE! ;-)

Brock,

I'm sticking to my story. The commissioner is ascending to a fluffy pink tax haven.
