| I have used atx for 3 years. overall i was happy until this year. Support didn't know anything about the software and i am thinking it is time for a change.
Of course the problem is pricing and forms. I do about 300 1040s In 3 main states and then i do a couple 1041s a dozen 1120s a dozen 1065s and some payroll returns all during the year. My question is , does lacerte or proseries have payroll returns in them (w2,w3,941,944,940) and if not do you know of a another software vendor that does??? Thanks, and happy after april 15th

| Don't know about Lacerte, but Proseries does not. You might check CFS software for a low cost alternative for payroll.
One reason I am a NPA member for $189 a year is their Technology Advisor, a large-scale magazine which 'reviews' tax software, payroll programs and the like. The reviews are never negative, but by reading between lines you can get some idea what you are getting into.

| Drake and Taxslayer both have writeup programs with payroll returns and e-file ability. Will be testing both soon. | |

| I use ProSeries for everything, except the PR filings. For regular clients, I use what's in QB, but for the manual PR's where there's only one employee, I use ATX W2/1099 only for the year end filings. Esp. handy is the ability to use it for the 940's and W2c/W3c's when necessary. I think it's $50, and works like a charm. There are a lot of W2/1099 filing options out there, tho'. | |

| The support issues I have with ATX are minor, I am more concerned about the product staying around. This tax season is the first tax season I have used ATX exclusive. My other tax preparation software sold out and I did not like the new company way of programming the software. I also don't like a number of the programming features of the write-up program that ATX now sells. It works, however, the input "screens" are not well implemented for a vary of reasons. I offered my services to them, however, they wanted my input for free by the way of user's comments.
I think I am going to renew with ATX, it does import a tax trial balance from QB for tax returns.

| I tried a W-2 program from Staples for small companies with only 1 or 2 on p/r. It was cheap and it was enclosed with the forms. | |

| But I do like qb and proseries. I've used them for years and have no reason to change. | |

| I have used After-the-Fact Payroll Reporter from Tax Accounting Systems for years and am very happy with it. It handles all the quarterly reports I need. I also get their 1099-W-2 program for the year-end stuff. The company is in MA and very responsive if you encounter any problems. CFS also carries these types of programs but they are a little more expensive and you have to buy 2 separate programs to handle both W-2s and 1099s.

| I might wind up staying with atx. It is nice having everything in one place and not having to have multiple programs for different types of forms. | |
