Hi Guys and Gals,

I received my eval copy of the Drake software and I have a couple of questions.

1) If using the pay-per-return option, the software says that I can e-file up to 15 returns for $285. Does that mean that I can prepare as many paper file returns as I want as long as I don't e-file more than 15? Most of my clients did not e-file. I am guessing this isn't the case and it is based on 15 PREPARED returns but you never know.

2) How strong is the state on non-resident and part-year State module? My current vendor, Taxact, doesn't do all NR states. I have two (and possibly more) clients that are musicians that work in multiple States and need this functionality complete.

3) Any other gotchas? I am seriously considering using this product going forward.

Thanks,

Michael

1) It is "pay per return." It does not matter you e-file or not. I used it for this tax season (first time). Previously I have used ProSeries.

2) I did not use non-resident so I do not know much about. Other users can chime in.

3) To me too many data screen to accompolish the simple task (e-file: goes through three screens). Some of the screen difficult to understand. I like Form based data entry as in ProSeries.

Thanks!

After taking it through a test run, I decided that I really didn't like it. Many of the screen have so much information in them that it looks to me that it would be very easy to miss input of information. Drake seems like it is tailored towards the high volume seasoned professional which is fine.

I like that Taxcut has the option to do the interview or straight forms. I am looking at a few more and then I will decide. I may stay with Taxact for one more year at least as it is the most cost effective and got me through this year very well....except the small quirk with the passwords.
