I got financial statements from my client today who just started using MYOB instead of QB. Got all info entered for 1120S return and realized the net income on balance sheet is different from P & L! Tomorrow I will have to go print a detailed trial balance. That should give me what I need I think but I don't know how to fix the problem so the P & L is right. Any suggestions?

I had client's using MYOB years ago, but haven't seen it in a really long time. Didn't even know they were still out there. As I recall, there were some quirky things about it that were frustrating and reporting capability was really limited

Does beginning R.E. tie out? I can't remember now if there is an option to print cash basis vs. accrual basis. Could it be one statement was prepared using one method and the other using another method?

That's the best place to start with. I was a bookkeeper about 9 years ago and used MYOB HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT!!! (Okay I feel better now...) I could never get anything to reconcile -- the check book, the AR the AP NOTHING!!! So the fact that the P&L doesn't line up with RE doesn't surprise me in the least...best thing I can tell you -- explain to your client that he or she needs to switch to a real accounting program (QB or Peachtree) -- and to keep any confusion from occuring you will help them put the CORRECT data in the system so that everything matches...of course billing for the extra time. Or if they refuse...direct them to the website of MYOB and MYOB should have a list of accountants that work with it...granted they may not be within a day's drive but they'll be in existance somewhere...Sorry - I hate it when clients think that they can switch accounting software without talking to us and then don't understand when we can't help them with the software...HELLO -- I recommend QB for a REASON!!!!

AGREED Laticiaw!!! Have a client that was using a 1995 version of Peachtree. (They sell/lease/service copiers for blueprints.) Balance sheet didn't balance and books were a total mess. They decided to start looking for a new software program and asked for suggestions. I prepared a three page double spaced list of comments. The number one thing was for me to look at it before they purchased. Instead they paid $40,000 for something called MV software which is DOS based, menu driven and has a copyright of 1985!! It's industry specific software that now they can't get to work. Now they're unhappy with me because I can't give them tech support on it. I keep telling them to call the company and get someone to come down from Wisconsin.
