Question: After IRS audit is complete and resolved, after 90 days, does the irs always forward changes to the state ?

I feel like many taxpayers who get audited don't get notices from the state. Because when i advise new clients that they need to amend their state return to avoid a notice from the state with penalties, they give me the " maybe they won't come after me or,i'll wait until they send me a notice, why would i want to volunteer paying them the tax?"

thanks

Will

They do in Michigan. In about six months, the State of MI will send out bills, if the taxpayers haven't amended their returns.

Ditto for Massachusetts too!

They do in Georgia, but it's usually a year later. Tell client he's kidding himself if he thinks state won't find out. Also explain interest they'll add to his bill. If you don't do the amendment, the client will bitch about you not doing the amendment when they receive the notice. They will have "forgotten" you told them to amend right after IRS audit.
