As a long-haul trucker employee (w-2) am I allowed to deduct the cost of lodging in addition to meals and incidentals when out of town on extended trips?

Has any tax professional ever tried to sleep in their office chair overnight? Not a good idea for your neck, sometimes a trucker's gotta sleep in a real bed or they get stir crazy! Definitely ordinary and necessary for an occasional hotel room on the road.

And if they choose never to sleep in the cab? I would imagine that IRS cannot require that a trucker sleep in the cab. Yes, I know that this would probably not be the case, but . . .
