My father who lives in Malaysia recently had a heart bypass operation. I had to come up with the funds for this, to the tune of about $24000. But he is not an American citizen or reisdent. I do not support him but the operation was not something he could afford so I paid for this entirely. Is there any way I can claim this for my taxes. After all it is not like I am paying for someone totaly unrelated! I was trying to see if I have this under the gift or bad debt catergory. I am not a tax professional.

Thanks in advance.
