What's the explanation for credit card Cashback bonuses not being taxable income? Treated as a rebate? A rebate on all purchases? Seems strange... Thank goodness they are not taxed!

But many people use those credit cards for business and deduct full cost and then don't claim the cash back bonus. Some do the same with rebates on business purchases. IRS was going to tax it a few years ago and then for some reason didn't

I think the IRS even gave up on use of "business" airline miles for personal travel.
