It won't be long now before the flood gates open and a torrent of tax questions and discussions begin to pierce the serenity.

Unlike myself, many of you are Year Rounders. Do you ever feel 'crowded' once the season starts?

You must not have any clients sending kids to college in the next year....I've had three already start their returns to get pdfs to send the institutions, one as early as January 14th.

I have about 40 returns that are not 1040's in process. Only 1 1040 as of yet done.

Plus, some audit and review financial statement work in progress.

D&T, do you mean the returns are needed for financial aid applications?

Oh yes, but they do add the proviso that the return can be estimated, with the real one provided later

Little over 25 in over here. 15 are done, 5 I brought with me on my adventure to the Bluegrass state this weekend. Left Saturday morning, dropped girlfriend and children off with their family, headed back home tonight to trial start "the season". Trial start cause it's a short week as Friday I fly out again to Tampa to seek new clients in the parking lot of Ray James stadium as the Steelers fight the Cardinals for feetball supremacy. Then home Tuesday for the onslaught.

And yes, there will be much tequila during the weekend.

Fred, are you actually going to the game, or just tailgating <w>? Jealousy is setting in. I inventoried my tequila supply over the weekend and I'm set for at least February. Enjoy your weekend!

I have ten individuals in, but only one finalized. Still waiting on W-2's for most; some have forms that are still in draft form. And Natalie, most of them are for financial aid apps (FAFSA). Evidently, the earlier you submit the info (and preliminary is OK), the more likely you are to get money.

A January deadline for financial aid, even if estimates are allowed, is just too early in my opinion.

Let's see, for year rounders, free life ends after Thanksgiving. Year end newsletter and organizers, year end billing for monthly clients, updated fees for all tax clients which go out on the organizers, all by Dec. 1. Then, cleaning out any remaining projects that have been holding, clean the office up, reorganize, and work up year end bonuses on corp. clients for payroll tax deposits due anytime from 1/2 to 1/15. Then, Jan 1, start up the year end payroll and W2 reporting...the year end billing for quarterly clients, wrapping up year end books for all year-round clients, a few early corp returns....so that by the end of Jan, you're full in on corp returns before the 1040's begin showing up. And I laugh when people say, oh, are you in tax season? Ha ha. Yeah, it started Dec. 1.

Oh, and software upgrades about every two weeks from mid-Dec. on, for QB, W2 stuff, ProSeries...and whatever else comes along.

You're ahead of me, JR. I haven't gotten to the office clean up/reorganize part yet.

Maybe my question wasn't properly worded. I was referring to 'crowded' in the sense that for most for the year many of you have Tax Almanac to yourselves, then once the season starts, this site is overrun. Much like empty nesters dealing with all of the kids home for the holidays.

My season starts right after Christmas with the annual ritual "Clean the Office / Get Organized".

Actually, I kind of like it when tax season starts. There are more questions to read.

Many more to ignore! More to keep Kevin preoccupied. More topics if I want to learn something.

Is it just me or does TA seem not to have as many DIY's this year? I usually stop here at least one a day but I generally don't read Tax Question threads past the first page, at which time some may be a only a few hours old. But the Consumer forum has first page threads that a week old on the first page.

There are more defense mechanisms built into the system now.

There's also the sad downside to the otherwise positive fact that we've been successful at getting more people to fill in their user page profiles: people you could swear were DIYs based on their lack of basic tax knowledge and/or ability to understand the answers turn out to be [plausibly claiming to be] tax professionals.

Trillium and I have re-worked the entire system from the ground up to protect the gates from the infidels. Some still manage to find their way in, but they are quickly escorted to their own consumer den.
