Ethics questions seem to come up fairly frequently on this forum. Tax Talk Today is going to have an hour-long talk about professional responsibility Tuesday, July 14. It qualifies for CPE. More information is available at [1]

Thanks, Natalie. I wonder if any of these people will tune in.

Big money at stake here. I wonder what most of us would do if we found a client was part of the 52K.

You're welcome. I don't think the 52,000 will be listening.

It's an interesting case, though. There's mention of taking over assets in the U.S. I wonder how this affects investors with money managed by UBS that is invested in the U.S.

Well, it wasn't exactly what I expected. They mostly talked about how they get referrals. One thing to note is that they don't take cases in which there's one instance of noncompliance. The preparer has to have a pattern of noncompliance before they'll pursue a case. In addition, they shy away from the penalties (you know, the ones that some were so concerned about when they were first announced - 6694). They would much rather suspend someone from practicing before the IRS than allow the person to pay his or her way out of the situation.
