Any comments appreciated. Hope if I get it done, it won't affect my ability to get through a tax season. Have had horrible eye strain lately - but can't get an ophthalmologist to tell me that removing my cataract and getting a new lens put in will help me with my eyestrain.

I thought if anyone would know, another tax pro who has had eye problems would know. I apologize if you think this is not the right place for this question. But I am feeling a little desperate.

Microsoft (and many others I suspect) have a feature on the mouse to vastly enlarge the working area of your screen. Also a nice wide screen can be useful for poor eyesight.

My wife had her cataracts removed and can now see better. I think there was no change in her eye fatique. Taking short breaks may help. You can also use duel (or more) monitors to some times have a better dispaly. Good luck.

Kendrick: the eye doctor may have already told you this, but if not, try this: if you are doing close work, every once in a while, pick an object across the room, some distance from you, and really focus on it. Do this for a few minutes, then go back to the close work.

I have to do a ton of reading every day, and have done so for years now; I was told this by an eye doctor as a help for general eye strain, and it seems to help a lot. You might want to run this by your doctor.

I have heard good things about Bilberry also (for general eye health), you may want to read up on that in some legitimate publication or ask the doc. Good luck!

My hubby's not an accountant, but uses the computer for hours at a time for work. After cataract surgery, his vision was better.

However, he did have a problem. The doctor measures the eye to determine what lens to put in. This is not scientific, but statistical. The original lens that was inserted was the wrong size and he couldn't see. He needed extremely thick glasses in order to see. Six weeks later, the doctor replaced the lens and he's had no problems since.

I have gone through this more than once (both eyes and a subsequent detached retina).

The result of the cataract surgery both times was a really significant improvement. These docs can really do good things. Just make sure you have a competent doc.
