| I've been using CCH's Master Tax Guide for 23 years. But I don't think Paychex will be giving me one next year since I started offering payroll services. (I figured out how they could afford to send over lunch every April and give away the books :-).)
In case I actually have to shell out money this year - how does RIA's Federal Tax Handbook compare. | |

| I've used both & prefer CCH, but it may just be because of familarity. Our Edward Jones office gives the CCH boook to tax pro's. You might ask around before you purchase. | |

| CCH among tax people is like IBM or HP used to be for IT personnel: you could never be criticized for buying IBM computers or HP peripherals, no matter how good or crummy they were. I use Checkpoint from RIA and receive the RIA Guide with it and find it just fine. I have used CCH also and find it just fine.....these two are the BMW and Lexus of the tax world, and either will do. If you are familiar with CCH, continue with it unless there is a price break on the RIA. | |

| If you subscribe (or have bootleg access <G>) to the CCH on-line tax service, use the Master Tax Guide. If you subscribe to RIA Checkpoint, use the RIA guide. If you don't subscribe to an electronic service or are using Kleinrock or something else, use what's familiar and easy to use for you. | |

| I have used the CCH MTG as well as many other resources. Last year, I subscribed to RIA's Checkpoint. I found it to be useful. Very clear answers and links to code when needed, etc. My guess is that the RIA handbook would be the same. Obviously you can't go wrong with the CCH book. | |
