Hi all,

I just started my tax practice in PA, majority individuals. I do have someone who wants to open a business account but he needs a certificate of authority or DBA to submit along with his EIN number. Since he is a sole proprietor, he needs to get a DBA for his business in the state of NJ.

My questions is, what is the best way to apply for a DBA? online? If so, can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Usually unincorp businesses get a dba from the county. Check with the county clerk.

Yep, and they usually require publishing in newspaper. He might try a smaller bank, not every one requires it, but if he wants to deposit checks with a biz name, he'll probably have to.

Thanks for the response!

He has a credit card machine and wants to use a large bank. The bank requires he has a DBA. How about these online small biz setup sites? Are they reliable?

Hello:

You s/b able to register his business and receive a certificate from the State of NJ at the following web-stite:

http://www.state.nj.us/njbgs/

I have used this to create numerous LLCs and have been able to open accounts with Commerce and PNC...
