| Yikes, it's cooold today! I'm sitting here in my sweat pants, sweat shirt and socks. I'm going to need to break out the gloves pretty soon!
(This post is for Tom.) | |
| January 29, 2008 | |
| Tom, you are right on. I actually put on a t-shirt under my sweat shirt. I'm about ready to break out the foot heater! | |
| 29 January 2008 | |
| Natalie, you are soooooooooooooo very evil. Keep it up and I'm about to get inappropriate about your remarks <EG> cause I do have a heater going. | |
| 29 January 2008 | |
| Well, it's 46 degrees just outside our nation's capital, so quit your belly aching!
Geez! :-o Tom | |
| January 29, 2008 | |
| I just wanted to stir things up a little. I hope you are all laughing. | |
| January 29, 2008 | |
| Fred? Fred? Are you there?
I think our connection broke.
| 29 January 2008 | |
| I am right here Natalie. My mind is still wandering from that t-shirt and foot massage comment. And yes, I'm shivering cold but laughing. | |
| 29 January 2008 | |
| Oh we are. :-)
It must be so nice out there. I can only wish. Enjoy! Tom
| January 29, 2008 | |
| Oh, that's good to know because I'm cracking up over here. (The Fred comment is kind of an inside joke, but others can check "Discussion:Fees: $250.00 Scd. C.?".) Now I have to get back to work. | |
| 29 January 2008 | |
| Me, not only am I cold, but I have a cold. Leaving in one hour to head home and vegematate on the couch. I do think that some of those west coast warm weather people have a few more hours to go before they call it a day. | |

| It can be bloody cold here!!! A client just came in and said that south a little ways in Keauhou they actutally had hail this afternoon!! and they aren't even at a very high elevation. Me on the other hand, I live at the 1500 foot elevation and sleep with two comforters, a blanket, a husband and two cats to stay warm at night. In the morning it's sweats and a sweatshirt because, afterall, it's 30 below up there. (To be fair, I have to explain that. Someone told my husband that since the average temp here is 80 degrees, then if it's 50 outside, it's 30 below 80, hence the 30 below comment. We think it's funny and love saying it to the relatives who live in snow up to their sitty downs.) I just had to take a few minutes to check TA. and I love this thread. | |

| And one more thing - I have to wear socks at my office and sometimes a sweater because the darned AC is so cold!!! OOOH is that over the edge? | |
| January 30, 2008 | |
| ROFLM*O or is it ROTFLM*O? Since I saw the report about snow on three of the mountain tops combined with all of the wind we've had lately, I thought you were serious Action!
Anyway, I do have my socks on AND I added a HAT . . . in MY OFFICE! (70% of body heat escapes through the head. Well, that's what my mom always told me.) Fred, I hope you feel better soon.
| January 30, 2008 | |
| I just got out a blanket. We're down to 67 degrees here. Yeow! | |
| 30 January 2008 | |
| I hope I feel better soon too. And yes, both of you are over the edge. | |
| 30 January 2008 | |
| Natalie and Action live in Hawaii and this is what we have to put up with?
Well, my heart bleeds for ya!
Tom | |
| January 30, 2008 | |
| Hey, I had to go to bed with my hat on!! I couldn't find my heater. I was cold. | |
| January 30, 2008 | |
| Edge, what edge? We live right next to the edge . . . of the ocean . . . the beautiful, big, blue ocean. (Oh, I'm sorry. You're welcome to visit!)

| Actually Natalie, I am serious about the blankets at night. This morning I swear it was 40 below at my house. And you guys did hear about our blizzard just before Christmas didn't you? It closed the access roads to the observatories up on Mauna Kea for a few days.
See this kind of Hawaii news never makes it out to the masses. All they think of is cool ocean breezes, palm trees, blue water, - Oh oops, that's just about right I guess. Tom and Fred, you know the airplanes fly hear quite often I hear. (little giggle there)
| January 31, 2008 | |
| We aren't making this up guys. Check this out: http://starbulletin.com/2008/01/30/news/story01.html (Search for "Snowing on Maui" if you are looking at this after 1/30/08.) | |
| 31 January 2008 | |
| Gee Natalie, you're right. But just above the photo the banner shows: 72 degrees and partly cloudy.
If you guys keep this up, I am going to fire up the whole orchestra! Tom
| 31 January 2008 | |
| I know this is not the place, but I am looking for some help with allocating s corp activity on a K-1 for a corp with a sec 1377 election as a result of a change in ownership. It is driving me crazy that I can't find a way in Proseries to allocate the activity the way I want, without overriding the K-1's. The Proseries tech support is sooooo bad, that I figured I'd check here first and hopfully save myself 2 hours on the phone. Has anyone handled this in Proseries? Can you direct me to a discussion if there is one?
Still freezing in MN. | |

| Wow - we did hit the news!! Kailua Kona is where I live and Palisades is the area in which we are building our new home. It's actually a little south of Palisades, but not much and you have to through there to get to it. | |
| January 31, 2008 | |
| (Pssst, Action, I think you missed a word. through ?)
| |
| 31 January 2008 | |
| Hey Natalie,
I just checked the weather out in your neck of the woods. It says 68 degrees?! OH MY GOSH!!!!! Better break out the parka and the snowboots!!!!!

| From my piece about weather, "I Love To Tell The Story" http://www.writing.com/main/view_item/item_id/432581
I carry on his traditions best I can, making you suffer through these accounts. Whether I have adopted his long view of history I do not know, but I remember one particularly hot evening back about 1984 when his seventy-ish neighbor called out to him in a loud voice, "DANNY, HAVE YOU EVER SEEN WEATHER LIKE THIS?" Dad could never yell, but he said firmly, "Well, Austin, I'm seventy-eight years old and I imagine in my time I've seen weather like this."
| January 31, 2008 | |
| Tom, I was expecting that whole row of orchestra players. I'm really glad to see that you have that smiley thing down now. Can you put in the cool guy? I really like him. Oh, and how about that jumping one? He sure has a lot of energy!
By the way, I left my winter coat and boots in Wisconsin. If you have extras you'd like to send over, I'm sure either Action or I can put them to use.
| 31 January 2008 | |
| Natalie,
I am still looking for an orchestra. But as soon as I find it, trust me it will make an appearance! I will find some others to have some fun with as well. I did find a funny video I will post. It has nothing to do with smileys, but I think since you live on that side of the world, you might find it amusing. I am sure others might enjoy it. I will post it later. It requires a bit of explanation. It was 38 degrees here outside our nations capital this morning. No snow yet. But last year we had an ice storm that shut me down for three days. It got down to 45 degrees in my house. You did read that right, the house. Tom
| January 31, 2008 | |
| I'm looking forward to all of those additions to this wonderful site, Tom.
Your comment about the temperature begs the question: Why did it get down so low in your house?
| 1 February 2008 | |
| The Valentine's Day Ice Storm of 2007 is legendary around here. We had no power for three to four days. Our power went off at 5 am that morning and it was sub-freezing temps all day for the next 3 days. Even though we have gas heat, the furnace runs off an electric blower, therefore, no heat could be circulated. It was absolutely brutal. I spent $700 on a generator just to fire up my computers and a portable heater just to get my business back up and running.

| And no fireplace? When it got really cold in our house, the big concern was that the pipes would freeze. It happened once. I don't really remember that though. | |
| 1 February 2008 | |
| We do have a fireplace. The problem? The outer vent was frozen shut.
Tom | |
| February 1, 2008 | |
| One of my favorite things was to have the fireplace going. My brother and I used to fight over who would start up the fire.
| |
Bottom Line (talk|edits) said: | 1 February 2008 |
| The problem is that the fireplace is in the family room while I work at night in a spare bedroom. | |
Rgtaxservice (talk|edits) said: | 2 February 2008 |
| For years my mom would call me from Phoenix in the middle of January to complain that it was a chilly 64 degrees. It was hard to take considering my thermometer had the mercury dipping into single digits here in the Northeast. | |
| February 2, 2008 | |
| Hey Action, the Ross store has a clearance sale on winter jackets. They have one with some nice, soft fake fur for $15! Would you like me to pick one up for you? I thought about getting one for myself, but my heater is doing a pretty good job now. | |
Actionbsns (talk|edits) said: | 2 February 2008 |
| I could have used one when we took the grandkids to the snow at Lake Tahoe at Christmas - I don't own anything that remotely resembles a winter jacket. I like the idea of the soft fake fur and fifteen bucks - what a deal. However, I finally found my space heater, now I just have to move all that stuff around it to get it out. By then the sun will be warming my lanai. | |
| February 3, 2008 | |
| Whew, it's hot in here today! Oh, no wonder, it's 78 degrees and the sun is shining in. I guess I'd better go put some shorts on. | |
| February 3, 2008 | |
| Tom, do you think you can find me a little sweaty smiley face with his hand going across his forehead like he's wiping away the sweat? I'd like to add it to my previous post.
| |
Bottom Line (talk|edits) said: | 3 February 2008 |
| WOW!! That's great!! | |
| 6 February 2008 | |
| Natalie, I'll trade you. It was 0 when I got up this morning and we had a balmy 25 today. We haven't seen freezing or above in a month. The snow is 4 feet deep and the neighbors carport collapsed yesterday due to the snow load. I live in Oregon, not the mid-west. | |
| February 6, 2008 | |
| Thank you for the offer Tilt. I think I'm going to have to pass. It's hard to ride bike in the snow. (I know -- I've tried to do it!) | |
| 11 February 2008 | |
| Let's talk about cold. I went to fire up the grill last night. Winds were gusting to 45mph, temperatures were in the teens. Forget it. Today, it got up to 27 degrees. It was 14 when I woke up. Ugh.
Tom | |
| February 11, 2008 | |
| Burr, that does sound cold, Tom! It's been a while since I experienced those temperatures, though. I even tried the Christmas of 2006. We visited Wisconsin. The coldest it got down to was about 22 degrees. It only snowed once in three weeks. We were actually disappointed.
I think you'll have a break soon. Our cold snap seems to be gone, so I'm sure your's will end soon, too!
Rgtaxservice (talk|edits) said: | 12 February 2008 |
| It was 9 degrees in northeast PA this morning. The schools had a two hour delay because of the frigid temps. | |
| 13 February 2008 | |
| Great, just great.
This time last year, we had a major ice storm. All the forecasters last year pretty much missed it. See the above posts dated January 31st. It explains the nightmare we went through out here in our nation's capital. So, just about 10 minutes ago, the National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning starting now until tomorrow morning. All day long they have been saying it's going to get above freezing. Something told me it wasn't. I was right. At least I have a generator this year. Tom
| February 13, 2008 | |
| And make sure you're in a place where it won't matter if you get stuck.
You know, I really can relate. I've had my share of ice storms. In fact, two days before I moved out here my car slid into a ditch.
| 13 February 2008 | |
| Natalie,
At least I have the Girl Scout Cookies, the generator and some food. Last year was worse because it was the coldest days of the year. Sub freezing temps, well into the teens or single digits at night. At least that's not the case the rest of the week. Tom
