Discussion:Big Island, starting EA business

I am moving to the Hilo side, Big Island. I will open a small practice there, but need to get up to date on Hawaii requirements. State tax, payroll taxes, excise tax, etc. So far I have non-responses from all the Hi State Govt internet sites where I asked questions. Any ideas on how to get started?

Also, we are building our personal residence, hiring local unlicensed guys as carpenters to help us, paying them cash (it's non-business). Still can't find out whether owner-builders like us need to pay workers comp and health insurance on these guys, or whether paying these will "bust me" for paying them cash. Any Hawaii EA or CPAs out there with time for a telephone call to help me? Susan, EA
