What are the IRS rules with regards to auto logs? Other than contemporaneous - can they take one week per month for an average? Can they take three months per year as an average?

At one audit, the IRS agent accepted my client's mileage record for two months. We took the weekly average for the two month period to arrive at a 52 week total. The auditor was satisfied with this method, at least for that audit. I am convinced one of the reasons for this is because the rest of the records and information we came up with to address the other issues on the audit were all in order and well documented.

Auto logs can also be reconstructed, say from an appointment calendar, etc. as long as they are clearly labeled that it is "reconstructed".
