Does anyone know of good-value live CPE? I would love to get involved with my peers but I just cannot afford the prices of most conferences and other live CPE.

Thanks

Jeff

Depends on what you are looking for in types of classes. Bob Jennings www.taxspeaker.com puts on some great seminars for $179.

I would recommend the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP). They offer live seminars all over the country and also self-study, online and online interactive (instructor-facilitated) courses on a wide variety of topics. Cost is around $20 per CPE hour or less. Their best known and best attended course is the 1040 and 1040 Extra offered around the country in the fall. This covers current law changes to help you prepare for tax season. I consider this a must do every year. NATP has 35 chapters which also offer seminars and are a great way to meet other local tax professionals. Chapter CPE is often $10 per CPE hour or less. See the website at www.natptax.com for education and chapter information. You do not need to be a member to attend, but rates may be lower that way. Annual membership is very reasonable and includes a free research question. I have been a member since 1992 and consider NATP a valuable resource in running my business.

http://www.aes.du.edu/home.php is affiliated with Denver University

i attend the annual tax update each year, which is excellent

it's not cheap, but the speaker in fort lauderdale each year, mr. roche is great

depending on where you are (southeast US) http://www.bellcpe.com/ has inexpensive seminars. they're owned by Thompson/PPC now, and i would guess they'll be expanding

If you are a member of the AICPA, they offer excellent online CPE courses for around $85/year. Go to CPA2Biz.com.

The Working Together Symposium (Tax Practitioners & IRS) in Seattle was a terrific deal. 8 credits for $50. It's probably just Washington State. It was sponsored by the WSCPA.

I've been to a couple of NATP seminars and thought both were excellent. Instructors were knowledgeable and available for questions during breaks. Also a good opportunity to network.

If you are more into online education, CPELink (www.cpelink.com) offers some good live and on-demand webcasts, with season pass type discount programs. There is also the option of earning free cpe if you volunteer to pilot their self-study online courses.
