I am currently using Norton Anti Virus and it will be running out in a month, and I am not happy with it. The cost every year is high and I keep getting messages that I am not registered and now I get an internal error.

Has anyone any suggestions on a different anti virus program, and how they work for they.

McAfee is working fine for me.

I installed Kaspersky last April. It has a lot more options than Norton did, and my computer consultant said it caught more stuff than Norton or McAfee. It does go through a "training period," however, so you need to know when to allow certain things.

AVG is a very good program and used to be free for personal use. businesses are supposed to pay.

I use Avasti and AVG. My computer guy installed both and recommended using them jointly just to be sure nothing gets through, after we had some kind of worm invade my computer earlier this year.

Two anti-virus programs at once. That's interesting. Some anti-virus programs will conflict with each other. Do both of your programs run at the same time, Action? And no problems?

I've always been told that running two will cause bad things to happen.

I've used Panda for years, as I got burned using Norton a few years ago. And Panda seems to have the least conflict with Lacerte, at least in the past. Plus, since it's based in Spain, the messages are occasionally in spanish - very entertaining as all I've had is high school spanish (decades ago...). My new computer guru suggested AVG, even in a business environment. He feels it's very good, and that the Windows Firewall along with your modem firewall is sufficient. Haven't switched yet.......

I've heard the Windows firewall (XP) is not very good. I haven't heard about Vista's firewall.

ClamAV (http://www.clamav.org/) is good (and free). Norton (now Symantec) corporate is also good - that's what I use. No yearly nagging about buying update subscriptions, it just works. It can be found for $33 online (Google for Symantec antivirus corporate).

I'm very happy with the Norton Protection Center program. It not only has virus protection but also advanced firewall, phishing protection, spyware protection and a great password manager that keeps track of all your log-in passwords on the internet.

I used Zonealarm Professional for years but got so sick of getting so many Zonealarms (and had no idea what the alarms meant) so decided to move to another program.

Actually it is called Norton Internet Security and is version 2008. You get three licenses for one price ($69.99). More info here [1]
