| Client had a fire in 2006. Gave me the figures for a substantial casualty loss and also said that not all the figures were totaled up. We did the amended last year and now he indicates that there was another 24,000 in casualty loss for the 2006 year.
This guy had records for everything and when he says his loss was $24,000 higher I believe him. the question I have is how much of a so-called "red-flag" is it to re-amend the 2006 return?

| Had to do an amended amended a couple years ago, and there was no problem. Just made sure that there was a several month delay between the 2, and included a note on the 1040X pg 2 explaining this was 2nd amended. | |

| This is a year later. But will definitely include a note about it being the 2nd amendment.
Thanks | |

| I'm currently doing a seconded amendment to a 2007 return. The original preparer made some erroneous assumptions to the S corp return that affected the 1040. When I took a look, it turns out he also ran the SEP IRA contribution through Schedule SE and self employment taxes resulted. I'm amending 2005, 2006 and 2007. But 2007 is the double amendment. I've provided an explanation of my amendment, do you think I need to include an additional letter or comment about it being a double amendment? The amendment issues are unrelated. | |

| I amended a return the other day that had been amended in early March. I included in the description on the 2nd amended return that the return had been amended on such and such a date. I think it's a good idea to mention that. | |

| I haven't had to do an amended amended since my first tax season, but it was memorable (for an accountant). A couple came into the office and wanted a second opinion on their 1978 return. Among the issues that needed correcting was a child they claimed that actually was not born until 1979. (Accrual basis accounting?)
After mailing in the amended return, the client returned to tell us they were pleased with the return and perhaps we could prepare a 1978 partnership return for them and another couple with whom they had started a business in 1978.
