| I am an owner of a small manufacturing company in the Dallas Texas area. I was wondering if I can get some advice in this forum. My present accountant who is not a CPA wants to increase his monthly fee. His services include:
monthly comilation with bank reconciliation, Complete payroll for 4 employees, 1099's/W-2's, quarterly tax returns, Annual income tax returns - both business and personal. What will be a reasonable monthly fee in this market. Thank you in advance for any help.

| It is really difficult, I think, for someone to give a quote based on that limited information. Have you checked with other bookkeepers in your area? | |

| I would recommend not reducing this merely to price. How many years have you had the relationship? Is his work generally on time once he gets the info. from you? Can you get him on the phone personally if you need him? In addition, some of the matters you mention are billed in a different manner/different fee schedule. | |

| CrowJD is right. A common complaint I get from new clients is, "I can't get the guy on the phone. He doesn't return my calls." You need to examine your relationship with this individual before you go "fee shopping." If the guy is doing a good job and you are happy with them, let him increase his fee. Also remember, when you go cheap, you get what you pay for.
Also ask yourself the following: if my price of materials increases, do I eat that or pass it on? I'm sure you don't eat it all the time. Maybe this individual has cost increases and can't afford to provide the level of service to you without raising his fee. Tom

| Thanks for all your input. However, I was hoping to come to a decision. He wants to increase his fee from 200/mo to 300/mo. His work is on time and i can get him on the phone when I want. Again, I appreciare your time. | |

| It sounds like you are getting quite a bargain if this person knows what he is doing. | |

| I agree. You have a known quantity, and you seem to want to go shop price? If you putz around with some new person that ultimately does not work out, isn't that a cost? If I understand you correctly, for $300.00/mo. both tax returns are included? | |

| CrowJD, yes both 1040 and 1120S returns are included in this fee. Thanks. | |
