When using the $25,000 over 6000 pound SUV 179 deduction, does it have to be pro-rated or do you get the $25,000 no matter what month the vehicle was purchased?

Section 179 is not prorated based on month of purchase.

I thought that provision had expired Dec. 2004. Need to double check.

I thought it was gone too.

The Sec 179 of the $100,000 limit expired in 2004. The Sec 179 limitation of $25,000 was still valid thereafter.

Can't sec.179 the SUV's but if a vehicle is well over 6000 lbs. may still be able to sec179.

Hello, I need to buy a car and despite the high cost of gas, because I probably have > 50% business use, i am considering a 6000+ lb gross vehicle weight SUV. Is this deduction still in place at this time???

Yes, but if you go out and purchase a car today, December 18th, you'd best arrange to drive it away this week, and then make sure you place it into service this week or next, and most important, resist the temptation to drive it to your brother-in-law's house 100 miles away for the holidays to show it off, lest that personal mileage torpedo your 50% usage!
