I need a little bit of help with preparing a client's 1099 misc form. The client is a farmer. He paid same person for equipment rental of $1,500 and land rent for $3,000. Can these two amounts be included on the same 1099 box 1 or does a seperate 1099 need to be issued for each type of rent. I read the 1099 misc instructions as well as the 1099 general instructions but can't seem to find an answer to this question. I know there's been discussions on 1099s on this forum so I hope I'm not repeating the same question someone else has asked. I did search this forum before I asked. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

By equipment rental, you mean machine hire?

If it's just the machine, then it can all go in Box 1 Rents.

If the machine comes with a human operator, you need to pro rate it between Box 1 Rents and Box 7 Non-Employee Compensation.

If there is only one payee, then you only need one 1099-Misc.

The equipment rental was not machine hire, he paid for using another farmer's equipment. He also paid that same farmer for use of his farmland. $1,500 for the equipment he rented and $3,000 for the land he rented. Can both of these amounts be totaled and included on the same 1099 or does he need a seperate 1099 for each item?

Both are totaled and go on the same form.

Thank you for your help. I thought that they should both be totaled, but I wanted to make for sure.
