I have a doctor client who received a 1099-MISC for income he never saw. It sounds like he earns money from a hospital, but the money is then immediately turned over to a pediatric foundation. I think the 1099 should be reported as SE income, and then deducted as a contribution on Schedule A, but I've never seen a situation like this before. Asked the doctor about it, but his explanation was vague (why can't doctors explain anything in plain English?). Any thoughts on this?? Thanks.

I would agree with your thinking. Also, when they can't explain it to you - then the best you can do is what you are doing!
