| My client has a 1099-B reporting 16,707 gross proceeds of which 2,500 is not accounted for in the transaction details with cost basis etc. but rather the trade date and transaction description of "Liq Divd". I've never seen this and am wondering is that reported on the Sch B as a dividend or on the Sch D? I assume the abbreviation stands for liquid dividend but since it is reported on 1099-B it seems like a sch D item.
thanks. | |

| It is a liquidation dividend, not 'liquid' and should be Schedule D | |

| Thanks, liquidation dividend. Still a case then of determining how long he's held that stock and what his basis in it is, the transaction detail just doesn't show it. Great, he'll have no idea what I'm talking about when I ask him that! | |
