| I have a couple of new clients who are active military, one posted overseas in a combat zone. I have searched for articles that discuss issues relating to military folks in the yellow box :) Does anyone have any specific items, articles, publications, etc that you recommend to educate me on potential issues I need to consider for these clients? I read, for example, that I need to find out the state of residence and potentially have to file that state return, depending on the state. Cleaning, etc on uniforms is deductible. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! Kathleen | |

| Check out Publication 3 "Armed Forces' Tax Guide" as a starting point.
Also, the following Forms and Schedule will be helpful 1040(A), 8880, 8812, 8453, 3903, 2848; Sch EIC. You will also need to know what and how to read the Active Duty LES Guide; what the Military Pay Grades are; and finally, what to look for in relation to the W2 boxes. All of this should be plenty enough to get you started. | |
