Not sure if I'm imagining this, but I seem to recall that a baby born on the first day of the year qualifies as a deduction/exemmption for the previous year? Anybody know if this is true?

you are imagining it

What is true is that someone who was born on, for example, 1/1/89, is considered to be 19 for purposes of the 2008 1040. This is because he has completed 19 full years of life.

Yes, but that same child will be treated as attaining age 65 on the day before his 65th birthday (for purposes of the standard deduction).

I bet he can't wait to get to middle age - that 65 year old child

If there is a standard deduction (or a 1040) in 2053, that is.
